Turning Japanese

I've set up this blog as a place where we can share updates from our holiday in Tokyo between 20 November and 4 December 2018.

As anyone reading this blog will know, I am a massive geek when it comes to Japan, and I've been beyond excited for months about this trip.

My first trip to Tokyo was six years ago. Everything about the place has always seemed magical to me, but it was beyond my wildest dreams.

This is Lucinda's first time travelling out of Europe, let alone to Japan. Half of the fun for me will be seeing her reaction to everything, and experiencing that culture shock all over again through her.

For someone who lives for food, there are so many weird, wonderful and scary things to try.

Our itinerary - which is many pages long - includes:
  • over 26 hours on a plane
  • cocktails at the famous hotel from Lost In Translation
  • the world's busiest pedestrian crossing
  • two one-star Michelin meals
  • a two-star Michelin meal
  • world-famous Wagyu beef
  • street food at Tsukiji market and elsewhere
  • ramen, fresh seafood, sushi, bento boxes, gyozas, snacks, sweets and hipster coffee
  • shopping, sightseeing, fun museums, tours, temples and a zoo
  • go karting on the streets of Tokyo
  • pro wrestling
  • karaoke
  • futuristic "super toilets"
  • two Japanese festivals
  • a day trip to Japan's second biggest city
Having said all that, we have lots of free time to explore, so let us know if you have any ideas!

George
