Shinjuku
Greetings from our second-last evening in Japan!
George was up late watching the Stranraer result (they won again!), so we ended up having a much needed long lie today. This also happened to tie in with the Tyson Fury fight so we decided to stay in until this was over.
I left to go to the shop and pick us up some tasty treats from 7 Eleven including corn dogs, karaage fried chicken and a cutlet with sauce.
We were both thrilled with how the fight went, but very disappointed in the judges' decision as Tyson Fury really should have won.
Once the fight was over, we left our hotel room in the direction of Shinjuku for today's adventures - first stop being the Toto super toilet showroom.
We seemed to be the only tourists there. Everyone else seemed to be talking to the salespeople as if they were interested in buying these toilets. Although if we do win the lottery, we will make a trip straight away and blow you all away with how cool our toilet is.
One in particular opened and lit up as soon as you walked into the room. It's all very futuristic!
Next stop was slightly classier - the Park Hyatt hotel, which featured in the film Lost in Translation. We went in the lift all the way up to the 41st floor for their "Twilight Time" happy hour, although it actually lasted three hours.
We were presented with a menu which included all types of alcohol including fine wines, craft gin, vodka, single malt whisky, sake and beer. The lady who showed us to our table - which had stunning views over the city - said we could order as many drinks as we liked and help ourselves to the canapes.
The canape table including the following tasty treats: smoked salmon, corn potage, vegetable spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, egg omelette with dashi, tortilla chips and rice crackers, with other various hot canapes being offered to us.
It was a magical experience and great to spot all the attractions that we have visited from our time staying here from above, all lit up like a super toilet.
Keen to soak up at least some of the alcohol, we searched online for the best ramen restaurants in the area and found a well-rated one called Ichiran. After a short wait we were taken to the vending machine to put through our order and both went for the same dish with extra pork.
We were seated in individual booths and George finished before me so left the restaurant first as the seats are so in demand. I left about five minutes after him and after ordering an extra portion of noodles to soak up the liquid.
Monday is our last day in Japan. I will be so sad to leave as I've loved every minute, but I'm very grateful to George for planning such an amazing itinerary! :)
